The 75,000 square-foot Clif Bar Headquarters transformed an original World War II valve manufacturing facility into a workplace haven for the outdoor enthusiasts at Clif Bar & Company, a leading maker of organic sports nutrition foods and healthy snacks. The space celebrates the inherent natural light and volumetric space of the repurposed warehouse, while capturing the company culture and connecting employees to the outdoors through “biophilic” interior design and includes open office headquarters, a research and development kitchen, employee wellness spaces, a theater, cafe and a day care center. This project was an early adopter of biophilic design, collaboration spaces, and sustainability concepts such as recycled and repurposed materials. IDeAs Consulting performed the electrical system design including lighting, daylighting and daylight harvesting lighting controls and a 500,000 kW PV system which offsets most of the facility’s electricity use. The project has received LEED Platinum certification.
