Opened in 1908, the East San Jose Carnegie Branch Library is the last operating public library donated by the Carnegie family in the city. Designated a national historic landmark it was carefully renovated 2009 and received LEED Silver Certification. The current 10,220 SF building includes the existing building plus new additional floor space including community rooms, a computer center and study spaces. IDeAs was responsible for the design of electrical systems, lighting and lighting controls. Green attributes include: extensive use of natural lighting and daylighting controls, passive cooling using an innovative underground thermal maze and high performance light fixtures.
